Joann H. writes: I have a Mickey Mouse Commemorative Proof Coin. It came with a blue case and has ” Disney Sixty Years with you ” and Mickey Mouse on the front cover. The coin has Mickey Mouse on the front with 1940 on it. The back has him standing on a piece of film. It has the same thing wrote on it as the cover does. It has the dates ” 1928 & 1988 “. It is 1 troy ounce fine silver. Could you please tell me how much it is worth. Thank you .
Those medals were made under license from Disney in the late 1980’s by a private minter. They were heavily promoted as a collectible by the manufacturer and traded at quite a large premium over the silver bullion value. I thought they were very attractively done and packaged but the prices were high and artificially established by the manufacturer. As far as I know, no real after market was ever really established so its hard to put a price on them. Â However, they are worth at least their silver value (one troy ounce @ the current spot silver price).
