About Us

The CoinSite began as an in-house project of ROKO Design Group, Inc., a former web development firm based in Boca Raton, Florida. Conceived and built by two coin dealers who share a passion for both coins and computers, CoinSite has been online since 1997.

ROKO was founded in 1996 by Robert Koppelman, a coin collector since 1959 and a professional numismatist since 1973. From 1977 thru 1985, he was a principal in Numismatic Investments of Florida and participated in all of the major auctions of the era, including the celebrated Garrett, Kaufman, Carter, Eliasberg and Norweb Collection sales and the “Apostrophe Auctions” of the 1980s. He’s purchased and placed with collectors many U.S. rarities, including two 1794 dollars, an 1804 dollar, two 1827 quarters, an MS68 1838 No Drapery quarter, an MS69 1894-S Half Eagle as well as several thousand other conditionally-rare 19th-century U.S. silver and gold coins. In 1994, he embarked on a project in collaboration with the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation to oversee the creation and editing of the Photo Proof series of articles on the History of United States coins. Getting his feet wet in Web design in early 1996 with the debut of his tongue-in-cheek Coin Doctor Web site, he now spends a good deal of his time maintaining the CoinSite and servicing the customers of CoinSite Buyers. A 39 year member of the American Numismatic Association, he’s also a long-term member of the Numismatic Literary Guild, Florida United Numismatists and the Central States Numismatic Society. Professional affiliations include the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, the Professional Coin Grading Service and the Certified Coin Exchange.

Stan Klein, our computer whiz, was instrumental in bringing the Coin Doc to life. He’s been a professional numismatist for many years and is a recognized expert and authority in the hobby, with a particular emphasis on world coins and paper money.  But ask him anything numismatic — you’ll find he’s uncannily well-versed in just about every area. Stan is a 29 year member of the ANA, and holds memberships in the International Banknote Society, the Numismatic Literary Guild and the International Webmasters Association.
